The National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (NCSR “Demokritos”) is multidisciplinary research centre. Founded in 1961, its community comprises approximately 1,300 scientific, technical, and administrative professionals, organised across six scientific institutes that cover a broad range of research fields. It is funded primarily through state resources, European programmes, and collaborations with industry, with interdisciplinarity constituting its core core operating model.

The Centre’s activities span artificial intelligence, energy and the environment, quantum technologies, biotechnology and health, defense and security, telecommunications, advanced materials, culture and digital cultural heritage, as well as nuclear and particle physics.
