Department of Economic and Regional Development

Description

The Department of Economic and Regional Development was established in 1989 and offers educational programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels. It belongs to the group of departments of economic sciences, and its graduates are registered with the Economic Chamber of Greece. Annually, around 200 students are admitted to the Undergraduate Program (UP). For the Postgraduate Program (PP), a maximum of 60 graduates are selected each year, and for the Doctoral Program (DP), a limited number of candidates are chosen following a call for applications. The aim of the Department is to provide comprehensive studies in Economics and Regional Science. Significant timeless and contemporary economic issues such as economic development, international economic-financial crises and their management, the role of international trade, international organizations, and financial institutions in the convergence-expansion of developmental inequalities among states, the planning and organization of private and public enterprises, European Union policies, the promotion of entrepreneurship, the utilization of technology and innovation, the strengthening of dynamic sectors, the activation of social capital, the analysis of regional inequalities, the environment and sustainable development, the exploration of the role of urban centers and metropolises, regional planning, and balanced regional development are subjects of study and research in the Department.
