Natural History Museum of Crete - University of Crete

Description

The Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC) of the University of Crete was established in 1980 and operates within the School of Sciences and Engineering of the University of Crete, pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 1082 (Government Gazette 274/3-1980).

In June 2018, the Museum’s new Regulation of Operation was published (Government Gazette 2198/13-6-2018).

The NHMC is organized into seven divisions: (i) Botany, (ii) Geodiversity, (iii) Palaeontology, (iv) Vertebrates, (v) Invertebrates (excluding Arthropods), (vi) Arthropods, and (vii) Genomics and Genetic Resources. It also comprises two laboratory units: (i) Education and (ii) Ecology and Environmental Management. The Museum maintains a permanent exhibition and educational space on Sofokli Venizelou Avenue, at Dermatas Bay, on the seafront of Heraklion.
