CSIC

Περιγραφή

Expertise description Our research group has wide experience in the development of carbon materials with particular characteristics that can be used in energy-related processes and emissions reduction. The team has a strong ability to perform a complete characterization (textural, structural, chemical and electrochemical) of different carbon materials. This includes activated carbons, meso and microporous carbons, carbon gels, graphene materials. This comprehensive characterization allows us to analyse the effects of these features, either individually or jointly, in the final application in which the material will be used. At this time we are focused on the use of biomass waste as feedstock in order to obtain new materials and compounds with high added value. Thereby giving a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution to the problem of biomass waste treatment. Expertise categories Supercapacitor. Material characterization. Nanomaterials. Electrochemical analysis. Nanomaterials for energy. Activated carbon. Biomass. Waste management. Thermal treatment. Skills and competences Characterization of textural properties of the porous materials by the standard techniques based on N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms and immersion calorimetry. Use of biomass waste materials for the production of low-cost activated carbons. Analysis of the performance of biomass-derived carbons as electrodes in supercapacitors. Research infrastructure of the organisation Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas-CSIC is an organism attached to the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. The CSIC is the largest public research institution in Spain and covers several fields from basic research through to advanced technological development. It is organised into eight scientific and technical areas and Instituto Nacional del Carbón – INCAR is included within the area of Chemistry and Chemical Technology. Actually, INCAR-CSIC performs an important research on the development of new carbon materials whose properties are investigated for the most modern applications, from composites to supercapacitors. Furthermore, INCAR-CSIC has a complete equipment to perform the comprehensive characterization of materials.
